Recognising and rewarding loyalty

I recently endured the annual process of renewing contracts with my utilities providers. As usual prices increased, and I’m okay with that – most prices go up over time. But I’m not a complete mug and I know when I’m being taken for a ride. A quick check with competitors identified better deals – much better deals. I even found my own provider was offering better deals. New customers only. I’ve been a loyal customer for eight years, always happy to go along with small price increases but this year, I’d had enough and couldn’t ignore the much cheaper contracts on offer. When I told them I was letting them go, they offered me a better price but I cancelled the contract on the basis that this was no way to reward loyalty. I don’t expect to have to ask them to treat me appropriately.
